Domaine Serene of Willamette Valley, OR
Did you ever look at a hill and ask yourself who lives THERE? We are there. It is Domaine Serene Winery of Willamette Valley, Oregon created by a couple that met on a blind date a few decades ago at the University of Minnesota.
I'm in a rare situation. I'm at a lost of words to describe this place. How about a Bel Aire or Tuscan Estate? That massive estate where billionaires mingle. Yea it's cool as hell.
Domaine Serene was described as the Estate on the Top of the hill… OTHERS LOOK UP TO!
They have a WALL & GATE to get past to get on property. If you don't have reservations you are NOT getting on PROPERTY.
We reserved an hour in advance from a mile away on a Friday at noon. They got us in. You will need a Credit Card to reserve. Have we ever spoken of the $10 credit cards available at Walmart… get one! We use it with strange vendors, parking meters & ramps and when the lady needs a card number to reserve a table over the phone.
You know, anyone with bucks can buy an expensive piece of property and build a mansion. So we got in and were seated in this incredible place, Michael our wine guide, asked us if we'd like to try a little wine from this estate named the NUMBER ONE WHITE WINE IN THE WORLD…. You HAVE my ATTENTION!
The wines & people could not have been better. We don't like Chardonnays but the BEST WHITE in the world? … we'll chance it… pour away. In a world of bitter Chardonnays these wines were smooth. Ever heard of malolactic fermentation, they allow 25% most wineries allow DOUBLE THAT! You can taste it. We LOVE DOMAINE SERENE Chards!
Well Michael brought two bottles of Pinot Noir reds to us. The wines we came out to taste. Michael happen to mention one of the Noirs just HAPPEN to be voted the number ONE RED WINE by the Wine Spectator. Let's see we are drinking wine at an incredible venue with great people & the two #1 wines. YEP LIV'N Da Dream.
We are in no winery wine clubs. It's not how we drink wine. But with the two #1s we had to ask about the club. The cost $0! It's only the wine you order.
After drinking seems like ten great wines we were done with the tasting and had to decide about the club.
We own The MN Wine Club, we got it because we agreed to keep another wine club going about 15 years ago and just changed the name. We still have monthly events.
Just because you own a wine club doesn't mean you buy a lot of great expensive wines. Most the wine we buy is like most people, under $30. The wines in the club were $75+. There is no question they are better wines then what we NOW BUY. We just do not have tastes YET that demand that. Will we ever get there? We are creeping there. In two years we may be demanding that quality. But for now we chose not to join.
When we told Michael he said: "Ok, thanks for trying our wines!" The man was total class.
One last note about Domaine Serene. If you are going to Willamette you are doing yourself a disservice if you don't go to Domaine Serene. But please make reservations to have it be your LAST winery of the day because not a winery we tasted at can hold a candle to the Domaine Serene wines.
